He needs to go claim the money from his father death and he also needs to get his father ashes. It shows that Indians life is hard and that they don’t have any money to except sales people that it hard to life on the reservation.

2. p. 61 “Thomas was a storyteller that nobody wanted to listen to. That’s like being a dentist in a town where everybody has false teeth…Ever since Victor could remember; it was Thomas who always had something to say.”

Thomas talks a lot and he likes to tell a lot of stories from the past. It shows that they have a lot of spare time if he can be telling a lot of stories. I think that he just likes to hear him self talks or he just is bored.

3. p. 62 “I didn’t say we were friends. I said you have to take me with you.” (Thomas)

“Let me think about it.” (Victor)

Victor needs the money to go get his father and Thomas is the only one who can give him it but he doesn’t know if he wants to take him with him. There not really close friends but Victor just needs the money to go see his father so he lets him come along.

4. p. 63 “’You know,’ Thomas said. ‘It’s strange how we Indians celebrate the Fourth of July. It ain’t like it was our independence everybody was fighting for.’”

He feels like the Indians don’t have a say in anything and no one cares about them. That’s how it is in America and I think they should have a say in stuff that they feel; is important or wrong.

5. p. 63 last two paragraphs starting with “Thomas closed his eyes…” and ending with …”’I wish I could be a warrior.’”

He wants to be a warrior he wants to be like the other men on the reservation and he hopes he can be one:

Their not always going to act like Indians or fit in with because most of the time they will fit in with the Indians. I think that they don’t always want to be Indian their Proud of it but in some cases they want to be like everybody else.

I believe that the world was just here but some how there was just animals here and it was dark. I just taking a guess I don’t know if it is true or not. I think the first people were put on here by god. Some how God made people of all different races and cultures. I think the first people were Adam and Eve and they had babies and then started the all the different generations. They talk about Adam and Eve and how they were the first people in books. No it doesn’t matter now they world is here now and it doesn’t matter how it got there as long as it is here. The Native American stories do have things in common they all are sort of of the wall. Their stories don’t really make sense to me. For example a man with a beak came and fixes the earth into a world that makes no sense and I don’t believe it one bit. Some of them do like one tribe thought that the people were in the ground and when they came they become humans. The people who believe in them are weird because their stories dont really make sense and it seems to me like a folktale or some story to make you laugh not a true story. No one knows what happen so their stories could be true or at lease half true. No their not an explanation the people who know how earth was created are dead and we were not here to say this is how the earth was created. They could have made up a lot of things and we believe it so there is no real correct explanation on how the earth is created. No I don’t think my beliefs about how the world or people were created are more correct or true than the Native American beliefs because I don’t know how the world beginning and I could be wrong and they could be right.

Native American vs. European Perspectives

I agree with the Europeans ways more because I go by most of their perspectives of all kinds of things. The Europeans go by being future oriented and that’s good because it helps them know what their going in their like and they have a plan. They are very time conscious and that’s great because then they wouldn’t waste time on things that are not important. They love to save and that’s as a plus because they won’t be broke. Also Europeans have competition they life to be the best but they don’t always have to they just want to. Finally they control nature by building dams and power plants but we have to have that stuff and we need it. On the bad side by Europeans being Future Oriented they might not plan for the present and not worry about it. By being time conscious they don’t have enough to time to have fun and just not worry about time. Also by saving they won’t give anybody anything and just save it for themselves and be selfish. They might get to carry awayed with competition and mess up stuff. Europeans always messing up nature and building new things that can be bad because the earth can just not have any more nature at all. Indians being Past Oriented is good because they focus more on the present in a bad way they don’t talk about the future and what going to happen. By being not time conscious they don’t rush or have to worry about that but in a bad way they don’t have a schecule for the day. By Indians giving more will make them broke and not successful but a good way people will like them a lot and gives them favors in return. Their more into teamwork and that’s good because they will have someone to have their back and by not they will have to do stuff by theirself. They don’t try to change nature so they will be in past but if they change it they will be more up to date. It would make them each talk about each other like Indians might say “O those Europeans are so competitive.” Or the Europeans might say” Those Indians are never worried about the future.” And their relationship wouldn’t be a good one.

The European thinks that there nasty adn dirty because they talked about their homes. “the indians had their homes in rude huts,made of sticks and mud,and generally grouped in villages.” also they talked about their bad diet. “he Indian diet cannot be recommended,for they were fond of rats, ground-owls and snakes, and regared a large,fat locust,roasted on a stick, as a particular delicacy.” They also dont likre their clothing “the men went naked, but the women wore some clothing, for sake of decency, ye furnished scant patronage for the dreemaker”

The Indians didnt say all the thinks the White people said. they indians just talked about how they looked and that they never seen anyone like that. A boy without a flag

The story is called a boy without a flag it is about a father and son. The father is not supportive this son at all. The son wants to become a writer and the father just says you need to get serious and that you can’t do it. The father tells the sons about how to united states abusing Puerto Rico and the father just telling him to stand up what he believes in and that’s what he does and just ends up getting in trouble and the father is the one who told him to do it.

The flag represent American and how he doesn’t like them because they use to abuse Puerto Rico. The story doesn’t represent freedom because he still got in trouble and he wasn’t able to stand up for what he believes in. So he didn’t have freedom to do what he wanted to do. I would have just stand up because I don’t want that on my record and look bad on me. Even if I didn’t believe in it I still would do it because it is not worth getting in trouble.

I would tell the narrator to stand for what you believe as long is your not getting in huge trouble. It is important to stand up what you believe but he was to young to know about what happen and in a way I think the nattartor should have follow the rules and just let in go for now. No he is not a good American he doesn’t even like America. He didn’t stand up for the pledge and he gave them a big deal just because his father said stand up what you believe in.

No I think he didn’t do they right thing because it was not that serious and he got in trouble for something that wasn’t that important. He is an American and whatever his father told him to do was wrong he should have just never listened to him. Yes he does he wants to become a writer so I believe that is his American dream. I think what stood out the most how the father told him to stand up what he believed in then us he goes to the school him saying why you don’t just listen to what they told.

Censorship

In Saromento CA the issue is that a rapper called C-Bo real name is Shawn Tomas was arrested for his music lyrics and that by him saying that stuff violates his parol. They are censoring his music lyrics and that just the way he feels. The police officers are because his lyrics talks about killing cops and it promotes gang life. The officers think that by him saying thoose things that people will go out and do all of that.

His attorney John Depress is opposed to it because he believes that he should not be arrested just for expressing how he feels. I think that there is nothing wrong with expressing how you feel even if it saying kill the police.

In Georgia the school started to here complaints from parents so the school board wanted to banned a book called the catcher in the Rye from the schools curriculum. The book has profantiy in it so the school doesnt want kids reading that. It is taught in 11th grade but the students have a choice to use other book.

I think that they shoulod keep the book in the school lessons. That is a great book and it might have a some profanity but the young adults will be in to the book so they wouldnt pay attention to the words.

American Dream

The American Dream is to have a good life and be successful. yes it is because they might have came from other countries and all they want to do is work and i dont i want to be rich and have a great life. I think my parents dream is to just watch me grow up to a successful person and to just do good. my dream is different because I want to be rich and everything like that.

I think everyone can make there dream happen as long as they do what they have to do and just try there hardest. The American Dream is not promise to people because everyone has a different dream and it is up to you if you make it happen or if you dont.

I think if depends on many people you know if you know more people then it easier for you. Also I think everyone has a equal chance to make there dream happen. Many people who came from nothing had made their dream come true.

Yes it would be able to acheive it in other countries maybe they might not have as much freedom as america has but anything is posible as long as you give it your all. I think I will reach my American Dream because im going to give it my all and try has hard as I can.

Freedom

To me freedom means be able to go wherever you want and also be able to do whatever as long as it not breaking the law. Freedom does not mean be able to do whatever you want because you cant go kill someone for no reason theres a limit to things.

I think we should be able to do whatever as long as it doesnt harm someone because if were not harming anyone else or anything else we should be able to do it. If were not causing trouble or breaking the law I dont see anything wrong with it.

I am not free to do whatever I want because the cops will arrest people if they break the law and noone wants to go to jail. I think is not OK to ever break the law because they make laws for people not to break them so there no point to break the laws.

I think it is more important to stand up what you believe in as long you dont break the law.

This poem is about people how were on the plane and also people who were in the bulidling that got hit. I think it sad because they didnt have only a few minutes to say goodbye and they were people who just wanted to get back to there familys.they died just because they wanted to blow some buildings up.the first line of the poem is From the Towers, from the planes. My favoroite line is “Honey, something terrible is happening. I don’t think I’m going to make it. I love you. Take care of the children.” I choose this one because it was sad and he only had a few minutes to say goodbye and not even to his children.

I was in the 3th or4 th grade and we were in class and then we were watching it on tv. I heard about this on on the tv it was all on the major news stations. I felt sorry for all the people who were dead and al the people who lost loved ones. The news didnt affect my life because i didnt no anybody who died but I still felt sorry for them. I really dont remember nothing from that day.

I would have been scared and i would have tryed every possiable way to get out of the world trade center or anyway to live. I would have called all my family and told them whats happening and that I love them. I would also say that i dont think im going to be coming back and tell them to take care. I would say that because thats all I can say if im going to die.
